Telethon: A Special Initiative By CNN-IBN On Road Safety

More than a million people died in India in road accidents in the last one decade. Five million people seriously injured and disabled in road accidents in the last one decade. 15 people die due to road accidents every hour in India. 20 children die in road accidents in India every day. Against this background, CNN-IBN presents a 3 hour long Telethon on Road Safety. A one-of-its-kind initiative, Telethon will provide a platform for the viewers to call and raise their concerns apropos of the Road Safety Bill and different measures that the Government intends to take to ensure Road Safety for people. The discussion will comprise an elite panel of guests including the Delhi Police head, Traffic Police head and Piyush Tiwari from Save India Foundation talking about the need for safety measures on road.

The telethon will mark the 1st death anniversary of Union Minister Gopinath Munde who lost his life in a road accident last year on 3rd June. After the incident, promises were made by the Government regarding Road Safety Bill but no concrete steps have been taken so far. This special initiative will aim to give its viewers a voice where they can raise their concerns, question the Government and discuss on the violation of traffic rules and unfair punishments due to lack of firm laws.
