BYD Atto 3 Electric SUV Gets 5-Star Rating In Euro

BYD Atto 3 is the latest Electric SUV from BYD. It has received an impressive 5-star safety rating in Euro NCAP crash tests.

Recently, the BYD Atto 3 was unveiled in India. It is expected to be launched in November 2022. The Chinese car manufacturer seems very confident about the new EV. The Atto 3 will be the company’s second model in India after the e6 MPV. Now, it has scored an impressive 5-star safety rating in Euro NCAP crash tests. While an LHD model was used in the tests, the safety rating applies to both left-hand drive and right-hand drive configurations (to all variants). The Right Hand Drive version will be sold in India. Let’s take a close look at the BYD Atto 3 Electric SUV and its safety features.

The BYD Atto 3 Electric SUV comes in multiple trims. In Euro NCAP tests, the base Active trim of the 5-door vehicle was used. It comes with 7 airbags (including a central front airbag), seat belt pretensioners, ISOFIX anchorages, lane-assist, and a speed assist system. The new car also comes with ADAS features like autonomous emergency braking. The India-spec model will get all these features. The bookings are now open for a token amount of Rs 50,000. Deliveries will start in January 2023.

BYD Atto 3 Euro NCAP test Results

In Euro NCAP test results, the BYD Atto 3 received a 91 percent rating (scoring 34.7 out of a possible 38 points) in the adult occupant protection category. The car offered good protection (to both driver and passengers) in the frontal deformable offset barrier test and the full-width rigid barrier test. Additionally, the new EV scored maximum points in the side impact test. However, the BYD Atto 3 offers weak protection to the driver’s chest area in the more severe side pole test. In safety assist systems, it got scored 74 percent (12 out of 16 points).

In the child occupancy protection category, the electric SUV offers good protection as well (scoring a total of 44 out of 49 points/ 89 percent). However, it lost some points due to the lack of an integrated CRS (child restraint system). The BYD Atto 3 is also fared badly in the pedestrian protection category (scoring 69 percent or 37.5 out of 72). The bonnet and the bumper offered good protection to pedestrians’ legs but not the pelvis region. In most test scenarios, the autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system and lane support system performed well.
