  • Latest Mercedes EV shares platform with EQS

Mercedes-Benz recently introduced its new EQE to Singapore. Electric cars are fast getting extremely popular in the luxury car market. No wonder, then, that we have been seeing carmakers expanding their EV portfolio to cater to the new demand. The new model was showcased alongside the AMG versions. Here are all the details-

Shares Platform with EQS

For starters, the latest electric car to bear the three-pointed star shares the platform with the more opulent EQS. This also makes the two look similar in terms of form factor. That said, there is a clear distinction in the soft parts. The EQE misses out on the LEDs running on the front grille. The new model is 90mm shorter than today’s CLS and has a plusher interior compared to the E-Class. The electric car has a fastback-styling to differentiate it from the EQS. The cab-forward format, though, has been carried over.

But this electrified E-Class is not much of an innovation for the Mercedes aficionados, especially if you look at the Germanic drivetrain. The electric motor delivers 292 bhp and 565 Nm. The new model sprints from 0 to 100km/h in 6.4 secs. The 6-phase Permanently Synchronous Motor in the rear axle helps in further improving the performance. The EV comes with a 90 kW charger, which gives you a range of up to 660 km on a full charge. A 170 kW DC fast charger can replenish the range to 250km of range in 15 minutes.

Interior

The dashboard features a 12.8-inch portrait touchscreen display and a 12.3-inch digital display on the driver’s side, both of which run through the MBUX infotainment system. This adds to the width of the cabin. The display is made of curved glass to protect the panel from scratches. The EQE selectively uses a HEPA filter as the ENERGIZING AIR CONTROL PLUS filters outdoor air that removes 99.75% of particulate matter and eliminates odors using approximately 600 grams of activated charcoal. For those wondering, the boot space is 430L.

Mercedes EQE 43 AMG Coming Next Year

Mercedes EQE is one of the first vehicles to be made from steel from Salzgitter AG, which can be 100% recycled. It emits CO2 less than 60% from the rolled steel generated. The EQE 43 AMG variant has also been officially unveiled. It gets a motor which is capable of generating 476 hp and 858 Nm. It is claimed to be capable of sprinting from 0 to 100km/h in 4.2 seconds. Futhermore, it also gets a bigger display with MBUX Hyperscreen which consists of three screens. These include a 12.3-inch digital display for the driver and a 17.1-inch display screen in the middle. Singapore car buyers can expect the EQE 43 to arrive next year.
