The next-generation BMW 5 Series has been launched in India with a starting price of Rs 72.90 lakh (ex-showroom). This latest model is available in two variants, two color schemes, and offers one petrol engine option. Globally, this is the eighth generation of BMW’s highly successful mid-size sedan.

Exterior Highlights

The new BMW 5 Series features the latest-generation signature kidney grille, complemented by sleek full LED headlamps. The side profile showcases both 18-inch and 19-inch wheels as part of the package. The car’s increased length over the outgoing model is noticeable, particularly in the extended wheelbase. At the rear, the design has transitioned from the rounded look of the previous generation to a sharper appearance with a thick bumper and signature wrap-around LED tail lamps.

Interior and Feature Highlights

Inside, the 5 Series boasts a new-age BMW cabin design. The one-piece screen houses both the instrument cluster and infotainment system, while the large center console includes various peripheral controls like the scroll wheel and gear selector mechanism. The cabin is trimmed in brown with grey as the secondary color and features default blue ambient lighting.

The second row offers ample space and includes all the expected creature comforts typical of the 5 Series segment. However, it lacks the massive rear screen, a signature element of the larger 7 Series.

Key features include a panoramic sunroof, Bowers and Wilkins sound system, multi-zone climate control, interior camera, leatherette upholstery, wireless charger and phone mirroring, connected car technology, a 360-degree camera, and driver assistance systems such as automatic parking.

Powertrain Options

The new 5 Series comes with a single petrol engine: a 2.0-litre four-cylinder motor producing 256bhp and 400Nm of torque. This engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission powering the rear wheels. It also includes a 48V mild hybrid system, enabling a 0-100kmph time of 6.5 seconds.

In this new generation, the 5 Series competes with the upcoming Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB and the Audi A6. It can also be considered alongside SUVs like the Mercedes GLC, BMW X3, and Audi Q5.

These updates highlight BMW’s commitment to blending performance, luxury, and advanced technology in its mid-size sedan segment.
