As the festive season approaches, the automotive industry is gearing up for a series of exciting new car launches in September. Whether you’re in the market for SUVs, sedans, internal combustion engines (ICEs), or electric vehicles (EVs), this month promises a diverse range of options across various segments, including both mass-market and luxury vehicles. Here’s a look at the key models set to debut.

Tata Curvv ICE

Tata Motors recently introduced the Curvv EV, and now, the much-anticipated ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) variant is set to follow. The price reveal is scheduled for September 2. The Curvv marks Tata’s new EV-first strategy, where the electric version launches first, followed by the ICE counterpart.

Under the hood, the Curvv will feature a range of engines, including a 1.2-liter turbo-petrol, 1.2-liter TGDi turbo-petrol, and a 1.5-liter diesel engine. Transmission options will include a six-speed manual and a seven-speed DCT (Dual-Clutch Transmission) across all engine choices. Notably, the Curvv will be the first vehicle in the Indian market to offer a diesel-DCT combination.

Mercedes-Maybach EQS

Mercedes-Benz India is set to launch the new EQS Maybach on September 5. Originally showcased in China last year, this flagship electric SUV will bring the luxury and opulence of the Maybach brand to the Indian market. The exterior is adorned with extensive chrome detailing and large, eye-catching alloy wheels, bearing the unmistakable Maybach logos.

Inside, the EQS Maybach features the familiar EQS SUV design, enhanced with Maybach-specific touches. The interior offers a luxurious experience with an MBUX tablet in the second row and two 11.6-inch screens for rear-seat passengers. Powering the EQS Maybach is a 108.4kWh battery pack with a dual motor setup, delivering 658bhp and 950Nm of torque, and a claimed range of 600km on a single charge. This all-wheel-drive electric SUV is poised to make a strong impression in the luxury EV segment.

Hyundai Alcazar Facelift

Hyundai has partially revealed the facelifted Alcazar, with bookings now open for the updated three-row SUV. The prices, however, will be announced on September 9. Competing with models like the Mahindra XUV700, Kia Carens, and Tata Safari, the 2024 Alcazar brings a fresh exterior design along with an upgraded feature list.

The facelifted Alcazar will continue to be powered by the same 1.5-liter turbo-petrol and diesel engines, paired with a range of transmission options, including a six-speed manual, seven-speed DCT, and six-speed torque converter automatic. Expect the new Alcazar to offer enhanced technology, including an ADAS suite, new upholstery, and dual large screens, further solidifying its position in the three-row SUV market.

MG Windsor EV

Set to debut on September 11, the MG Windsor EV is essentially a rebadged version of the Wuling Cloud EV, which is already sold in international markets. MG has teased the Windsor EV multiple times, revealing features like LED light bars, a panoramic sunroof, a modern steering wheel, and a rear-seat package.

This Compact Utility Vehicle (CUV) marks the first launch under MG’s collaboration with JSW, and while global variants offer two battery pack options, it remains to be seen which configuration will be available in India. However, we can expect the Windsor EV to offer a range of up to 460km on a single charge, making it a compelling option in the growing Indian EV market.

New Maruti Dzire

Following the launch of the new Swift in India, Maruti Suzuki is set to introduce the next-generation Dzire, a model that will revitalize the sub-four-meter sedan segment, competing against the Hyundai Aura, Honda Amaze, and Tata Tigor.

Recent sightings of the 2024 Dzire reveal new design elements in line with the updated Swift, as well as features like an electric sunroof. The Dzire will be powered by the new 1.2-liter Z12E petrol engine, producing 80bhp and 112Nm of torque, with power transmitted to the front wheels via five-speed manual and AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) units.

Tata Nexon CNG

Tata Motors continues to diversify its portfolio with the upcoming launch of the Nexon CNG, following the recent introductions of the Curvv EV and its ICE derivatives. The Nexon CNG, which was showcased at the Bharat Mobility Expo earlier this year, will be the first turbo-petrol-CNG offering in the Indian market.

While technical specifications are still under wraps, it’s expected that the CNG variant will maintain similar power output in petrol mode as the standard Nexon. Featuring a dual CNG cylinder setup, the Nexon CNG will offer both manual and AMT transmissions. Once launched, the Nexon will boast the widest range of powertrain options, including petrol, diesel, CNG, and EV, making it a versatile choice for Indian consumers.
