Kia has begun testing what is believed to be the electric version of the Carens MPV in India. A recently surfaced spy image reveals a heavily camouflaged prototype of the vehicle, hinting at an imminent debut, possibly early next year.
The spy shot shows that the Carens EV test vehicle lacks an exhaust system, a feature present in its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart. Additionally, the test mule seems to be equipped with a modified rear suspension, noticeable from its elevated ride height.
Besides the new electric powertrain, the Carens EV will likely introduce a facelift, which is also expected to be available in the ICE variants. Kia is simultaneously working on other upcoming models, including the next-generation Carnival and the all-new EV9, both set to launch in India next month. The facelifted Carens and its electric variant are anticipated to follow soon after, potentially in the first quarter of 2025.
The new Carens EV is expected to feature a 45kWh battery paired with a single electric motor, delivering an estimated range of up to 500km on a full charge. This is likely the same powertrain that will be used in the forthcoming Hyundai Creta EV.
